The Engaged Encounter Programme was brought to the Archdiocese of Bombay, in 1981 by Rev. Fr Dan Ferrando, sj. He had been to the USA in 1980 and while there, was invited to give a weekend in Spanish (due to shortage of a priest).

Fr Dan liked the concept and the contnt of the programme and decided to start it here. After getting the go ahead from the Cardinal; Fr Dan and 2 senior Marriage Encounter couples gave the 1st EE weekend in Jan 1981.
From then on the EE movement flourished and over 12,000 young couples have benefited.
